The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Washington Specialist Hospital at Sofoline in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Thomas Kofi Karikari, has warned Ghanaians against certain activities and lifestyle choices that increase the risk of kidney failure.
Speaking to newsmen during a free health screening the hospital organized for Prince of Peace Senior High school, the CEO emphasized the importance of kidney health and the need for individuals to take proactive steps to protect their kidneys.
Mr. Karikari, highlighted on lack of frequent check-up of blood pressure, lack of physical activity, smoking, excessive drinking of alcohol among many others as risk factors that can lead to kidney failure.
“We have patients as young as 23-years, 19-years, who are suffering from kidney diseases and this is so worrying,” he revealed.
He further stressed the importance of early detection and treatment of kidney disease, highlighting the need for regular check-ups and screenings.
“We must take proactive steps to protect our kidney health. By making informed lifestyle choices and managing underlying health conditions, we can reduce our risk of kidney failure and maintain overall health and well-being,” he stated.
This warning serves as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing kidney health and taking steps to prevent kidney failure.
Moreover, he revealed that Washington Specialist Hospital treats all kinds of diseases especially dialysis, and therefore entreated people with kidney problems to look no further than to visit the facility for their kidney health solutions.

Mrs. Janet Addai Yeboah, a senior nurse at the Washington Specialist Hospital indicated that the results of most students revealed that their health is in good condition, echoing that they should restrain from activities that will jeopardize their health status.
