The Fulbe Youth Association has issued a passionate appeal for greater unity and inclusion between the Gonja and Fulbe communities in the Savannah Region.
Speaking at the 49th Gonjaland Youth Association Congress in Sawla, Yakubu Musah Barry, Secretary of the Fulbe Youth Association, emphasized the importance of mutual respect and cooperation in driving development and progress.
Barry highlighted the long history of coexistence between the two communities, stressing that their destinies are intertwined and that mutual respect and cooperation are essential for their collective prosperity.
The association appealed to the government to recognize and empower Fulbe leaders, particularly in areas where they have a significant presence. They also emphasized the need for inclusivity in national exercises, such as the issuance of national identity documents.
The gathering drew attention to historical records of collaboration between the two communities, highlighting the potential for achievement through unity. A notable example cited was the partnership between a Gonja leader and his trusted Fulani spiritual advisor in the 16th century.
The association outlined key development needs for the Fulbe community, including access to clean water, education, and support for livestock.
The call for unity and inclusion is seen as a significant step towards promoting peace and development in the region.
The Gonja Youth Association’s efforts to bring together stakeholders and address key issues are expected to contribute to a brighter future for the communities involved.
“By working together and embracing their shared history and common goals, the Gonja and Fulbe communities can build a more prosperous and harmonious future,” he stated.
The Fulbe Youth Association’s appeal serves as a reminder of the importance of unity and cooperation in driving progress and development in the Savannah Region.
