A young lady has lost her iPhone 7+ in a chaotic stampede at Sofoline.

The incident occurred amid a surge in passengers rushing to board trotro vehicles, with fares to Kejetia reaching GHS10 instead of the normal GHS3.50p.

The stampede which occurred on the morning of Monday,May 19,2025,led to the woman’s phone being stolen by an unidentified person in the crowd leaving her in tears.

The loss highlights the challenges faced by passengers in various invented lorry terminals in Kumasi.

The incident has since sent shockwaves through the community, leaving passengers with frustration and fear.

The surge for trotro by passengers in the Ashanti Region especially Kumasi Metropolis has been worrying with passengers having no other option than to compromise with fare increments.

According to passengers, trotro drivers normally increase charges on fares in the morning and evening, and even with that passengers struggle to get car to their various destinations.

Calls are being made on authorities in the Region especially the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene to help find lasting solution to the act, with some stating that this is only happening in the Ashanti Region.

“Let’s feel the impact of being in cues to vote for you, and not make our lives a living hell,” one passenger stated.

“It took the intervention of my pastor to save my job because my boss nearly fired me because I was late for work,” another noted.

“We use our little monthly salaries for fares leaving us with nothing at the end, and this is making life unbearable for most youth especially in the Ashanti Region,” one other indicated.

“We are calling on the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene to drastically address this issue of “short short” by trotro drivers in the region,” they pleaded.
