
The Ashanti Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Dr. Jackson Adiyeya Nyantakyi, has called on Journalists to support the organization to protect Ghana’s environment.
The director emphasized on the crucial role journalists play in protecting Ghana’s environment in the area of educating the general public.
Speaking to the media after the Second Biennial Media Forum on Natural Resources, Environment, Climate Change, and Science,at the True Vine Hotel, Kumasi, Dr. Nyantakyi urged media houses to collaborate with the EPA in educating the public about the newly introduced Environmental Protection Act 2025.
Dr. Nyantakyi stressed that environmental protection is a collective responsibility, requiring the active involvement of all stakeholders, including journalists, traditional leaders, and individuals.
The EPA boss highlighted the importance of the newly enacted Environmental Protection Authority Act (Act 1124), which aims to protect Ghana’s fragile ecosystems and promote sustainability.
“Journalists have a critical role in shaping public opinion and influencing policy decisions on environmental protection,” Dr. Nyantakyi noted.
“God has entrusted the fragile environment unto our care,” referencing Psalm 24:1. “The earth and all the resources therein belong to God,” he emphasized, underscoring the importance of responsible stewardship.
He called on traditional leaders, individuals, and the media to support the EPA in protecting and sustaining the environment. By working together, he believes Ghana can achieve a more sustainable future.
Dr. Nyantakyi further entreated editors of various media houses to prioritize stories of environmental issues in their bulletins and morning shows.
The EPA’s collaboration with journalists is crucial in promoting environmental awareness and education.
By partnering with the media, the EPA can amplify its message and inspire collective action to protect Ghana’s environment.
