GIZ and World Vision Commission Mechanized Borehole for Jang Community 

The residents of Jang, a suburb community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region, numbering about 1,000 can now heave a sigh of relief following the commissioning of a mechanized borehole project by World Vision Ghana.

The project, which is funded by the German Government’s international development agency (GIZ) and implemented by World Vision Ghana, is aimed at improving access to clean and safe drinking water for the community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, representatives of both GIZ and World Vision Ghana emphasized the critical role access to potable water plays in promoting good health and enhancing the overall well-being of rural communities.

The Deputy Project Manager of the GIZ–REACH Project, Mr. Simon Kunyangna, reiterated GIZ’s commitment to supporting sustainable water and sanitation initiatives, particularly in underserved communities.

The Paramount Chief of the Choru Traditional Area, Choriwura Essunga Dramani Kabasagya I, expressed deep appreciation to World Vision Ghana and its partners for making the project a reality. He described the mechanized borehole as a timely intervention that would address the community’s long-standing water challenges.

The Chief further pledged the community’s commitment to ensuring the proper maintenance and sustainability of the facility.

Representing the Savannah Regional Minister, Hon. Salisu Biawurbi, the Regional Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Adam Wahab, commended the initiative, highlighting the strong link between access to clean water and improved public health outcomes.

The District Chief Executive for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Hon. Saaka Sinkina, also lauded the project and used the occasion to outline proactive measures being undertaken by his administration to make education more accessible and of higher quality within the district.

The newly commissioned mechanized borehole is expected to significantly improve water access in Jang, thereby enhancing the quality of life and health conditions of residents.
