The Nkosuohene of Nyankyerenease Traditional Council in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region Nana Adu Gyamfi, a social advocate, has called on the government to place the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and the aged at the center of national development policies, describing their support as a moral duty and a measure of a compassionate society.

Speaking at his donation of food stuffs such as rice, oil, mackerel, eggs, etc, to 5,000 vulnerables which took place at Abofuo in the Offinso South Municipality of the Ashanti Region today, December 21,2025, Nana Adu Gyamfi stressed that despite numerous policy promises, many vulnerable groups continue to face daily hardships, including limited access to healthcare, inadequate social protection, unemployment, and poor living conditions.

According to him, Persons with Disabilities and the aged contribute significantly to society but are often neglected when it comes to the distribution of national resources. He urged the government to move beyond rhetoric and implement practical, well-funded interventions that directly improve their quality of life.
“A nation is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable citizens. If we truly seek development, then the aged and Persons with Disabilities must not be left behind,” he stated.

Nana Adu Gyamfi highlighted the need for improved access to healthcare facilities, disability-friendly infrastructure, and timely disbursement of social intervention funds such as pensions, disability grants, and livelihood support programs. He also emphasized the importance of enforcing existing laws that protect the rights of PWDs, including accessibility standards in public buildings and transportation systems.
He further appealed to policymakers to actively engage representatives of disability groups and elderly citizens in decision-making processes to ensure that policies reflect their real needs and challenges.

Community members and advocacy groups present at the event echoed his concerns, calling for stronger collaboration between government institutions, traditional authorities, and civil society organizations to safeguard the dignity and wellbeing of vulnerable populations.
Nana Adu Gyamfi concluded by urging leaders at all levels to demonstrate empathy and accountability, noting that sustainable national progress can only be achieved when every citizen, regardless of age or physical ability, is given the opportunity to live with dignity and respect.
