The Paramount Chief of Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ashanti Region (Tepa Manhene), Nana Adu-Sei Atwerewa Ampem, has called on Ghanaians to actively support traditional leadership as a vital pillar for national and community development.
Speaking at a community gathering in Tepa, Nana Adu-Sei Atwerewa Ampem emphasized that chiefs and traditional authorities continue to play a crucial role in promoting peace, unity, and socio-economic progress at the grassroots level. He noted that sustainable development cannot be achieved without the involvement and respect of traditional institutions, which remain closest to the people.
According to the Tepa Manhene, traditional leaders serve as custodians of culture, land, and moral values, and their collaboration with government agencies, private institutions, and citizens is essential for effective development planning and implementation.
“Traditional leadership is not in competition with modern governance; rather, it complements it. When chiefs are supported and engaged, development efforts become more inclusive and impactful,” he stated.
Nana Adu-Sei Atwerewa Ampem urged citizens, particularly the youth, to show respect for chieftaincy institutions and participate in communal activities aimed at improving education, health, sanitation, and local infrastructure.
He further appealed to policymakers to strengthen partnerships with traditional authorities, stressing that chiefs possess deep knowledge of their communities and can help resolve conflicts, mobilize resources, and promote social cohesion.
The Tepa Manhene reaffirmed his commitment to working with all stakeholders to advance development within the Tepa Traditional Area and beyond, calling on Ghanaians to recognize traditional leadership as a key driver of national progress.
