The Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North Gonja district have staged a protest against the alleged diversion of the 24-hour economy market, initially planned for Mankarigu, to Daboya.
The NDC’s regional leaders, led by Governor Abubakari Mohammed, claim the decision to move the market is part of a scheme benefiting Daboya while sidelining Mankarigu’s residents. The demonstration saw Mankarigu-based executives, clad in red and holding placards, marching in protest against the shift.

According to the protestors, the move was driven by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Member of Parliament (MP), and Savannah Regional Minister, whose actions are seen as motivated by personal interests, ignoring the market’s historical and economic significance to Mankarigu.
The Mankarigu Zone NDC is calling for transparency, accountability, and fair allocation of development projects. They are demanding that the Regional Minister step down and have the President intervene to ensure the market remains in Mankarigu as initially planned.

The Mankarigu assembly member expressed frustration, noting that the community had already donated two acres of land for the project. Traders in Mankarigu warned that if the project is moved, they will halt trading, which could significantly affect the district’s revenue generation.

Regional authorities have yet to respond to the allegations, leaving the market’s future uncertain and the community’s economic prospects in limbo.
