NPP Primaries: Nana Adu Gyamfi Urges Delegates to Reject Vote Buying, but Choose Wisely

The Nkosuohene of Nyankyerenease Traditional Council in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region and Chief Executive Officer CEO of Shamor Group of Companies, Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin Barima Kese has appealed to New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to resist monetary inducements and make choices guided by conscience, competence, and the long-term future of the party and Ghana as a whole as they prepare for their presidential primaries slated for January 31,2026.

Speaking to this reporter, Nana Adu Gyamfi warned that the growing influence of money in internal party elections poses a serious threat to democratic values and effective leadership.

“Cash will come and go, but the leader you elect will define the direction of the party and the nation,” he said. “Delegates must not trade their votes for money. This is a critical decision that demands wisdom and integrity.”

He emphasized that vote buying distorts the democratic process and often results in leadership that prioritizes personal gain over public service. According to him, delegates must critically assess presidential aspirants based on their vision for Ghana, leadership experience, integrity, and commitment to the core values of the NPP.

Nana Adu Gyamfi noted that the outcome of the presidential primaries will significantly influence the party’s unity and electoral fortunes in the 2028 general elections. He urged delegates to consider the broader implications of their choices beyond short-term benefits.

“The strength of the NPP lies in its principles, rule of law, development in freedom, and respect for democratic norms,” he stated. “If they undermine these principles at the primary level, they weaken their message to the Ghanaian people,” he added.

He also called on aspirants contesting the presidential slot to conduct clean, issue-based campaigns and avoid actions that could sow division within the party. Unity after the primaries, he stressed, would be crucial for rebuilding trust and mobilizing grassroots support.

The NPP’s presidential primaries are expected to attract significant attention as the party charts its course for the future. Party elders and stakeholders have repeatedly cautioned against the monetization of the process, urging delegates to uphold fairness, transparency, and discipline.

As the date draws closer, Nana Adu Gyamfi’s message reinforces growing calls within the party for delegates to rise above financial temptations and make decisions that will strengthen the NPP and Ghana’s democracy.
