
The Ashanti Region is set to host the much-anticipated “Rising Stars” Rugby League on March 13, 2026, in a major step toward strengthening grassroots rugby development. The exciting schools tournament will take place at the Ahenkro AstroTurf and is expected to bring together young talents from across selected communities in the region.
The competition will feature pupils and students from Akrofrom JHS and Primary School, Akrowa JHS and Primary School, Mowire JHS and Primary School, Aduamoa JHS and Primary School, Apagya JHS and Primary School, Kyerekrom JHS and Primary School, and Amoako Primary School. The participating schools are preparing to showcase their skills, teamwork, and determination in what promises to be a thrilling display of youth rugby.
Organized under the Ashanti Regional Rugby Association, the “Rising Stars” Rugby League is designed to identify and nurture young talents while promoting discipline, sportsmanship, and physical fitness among basic school learners. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to build a strong foundation for rugby in the region and Ghana as a whole.
The Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Rugby Association, Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin Barima Kese who is also the Nyankyerenease Nkosuohene and Chief Executive Officer of Shamor Group of Companies has reaffirmed his commitment to expanding rugby opportunities for young people. Under his leadership, the Association continues to prioritize grassroots development and community engagement.
Organizers have also announced that their doors are open for partnerships and sponsorships from corporate bodies, institutions, and individuals who share the vision of empowering young athletes through sports. They believe that collaborative support will not only enhance the success of this year’s event but also ensure sustainability for future editions.
With growing anticipation ahead of March 13, the “Rising Stars” Rugby League is poised to become a landmark sporting event in the Ashanti Region, offering young players a platform to shine while fostering unity and community pride.
