Six nabbed in Bono East NACOC Anti-Drug Operation at Techiman Nkwaeso

Six persons have been arrested by the Bono East Regional Office of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) during a targeted anti-narcotics operation at Techiman Nkwaeso in the Techiman Municipality.

The operation, dubbed “Chase Them Out,” forms part of the Commission’s intensified efforts to combat the growing menace of illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the Bono East Region.

Speaking to the media, the Bono East Regional Operations Officer, ANCO Andrews Ansah Boakye, disclosed that the exercise was sanctioned by the Bono East Regional Commander, SNCO Portia Abuwie Demuyakor, following intelligence gathered over the past week on suspected drug-related activities in the area.

According to him, officers raided a suspected drug den and mounted roadside inspections targeting motorcyclists, tricycle riders, and vehicles transporting charcoal. The intelligence-led operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects: Muhis Tahiru, 24; Abdul Basit Ibrahim, 28; Obeng Emmanuel, 24; Kadali Abdullaih, 73; Kwasi Oppong, 28; and Owusu Rita, 38.

The operation also led to the seizure of a quarter of a polythene bag of suspected cannabis, one and a half blister packs of 250-milligram tramadol tablets, two rolls of suspected cannabis, two pairs of scissors, one cannabis grinder, four packs of rolling papers, five lighters, ten mobile phones, three motor vehicles, one bicycle, and one tricycle.

ANCO Andrews Ansah Boakye reiterated the Commission’s commitment to safeguarding communities from the harmful effects of illicit drugs through sustained intelligence-led operations.

He further emphasized that NACOC’s mandate goes beyond law enforcement, stressing that public education, counselling, treatment, and rehabilitation remain integral parts of the Commission’s strategy to reduce drug abuse and support affected individuals.

The suspects are expected to assist with ongoing investigations and may be prosecuted if found culpable.
