Bole Youth Group Protests MCE Nominee Appointment

A youth group in the Bole municipality, Arise Bole Youth, has expressed strong opposition to President John Dramani Mahama’s nomination of Mr. Abdulai Mahamud as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.

The group cited concerns about Mr. Mahamud’s suitability for the role, given the cosmopolitan nature of the municipality.

The youth group alleged that Mr. Mahamud is not a registered voter in the constituency, raising questions about his eligibility for the position.

The group expressed concerns about Mr. Mahamud’s past social media activities, particularly Facebook posts that they claim have the potential to instigate tribal divisions between ethnic groups in the area.

The youth argued that Mr. Mahamud’s appointment would compromise the delicate social balance in the municipality, given its ethnic diversity.

The Arise Bole Youth group is calling on President Mahama to reconsider Mr. Mahamud’s nomination and consult widely to select a candidate who better aligns with the aspirations and identity of the Bole municipality, citing a precedent from President Mahama’s first term, where a similar appointment allegedly led to disconnection and underdevelopment.

The youth group’s protest highlights the importance of careful consideration in appointing leaders who can promote unity, inclusivity, and development in diverse communities.

The outcome of this nomination will likely have significant implications for the Bole municipality’s social cohesion and progress.
