The Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA), led by its First Vice President, Mr. Dramani Isahaku Mastana, on Friday, July 24, 2026, joined the Kingdom of Dagbon in Yendi to participate in the 7th-day funeral rites of the late Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II.

The delegation attended the solemn ceremony to convey the Association’s deepest condolences and express its unwavering solidarity with the Regent, the Royal Family, the Chiefs and Elders, and the people of Dagbon during this period of mourning.

The visit underscored the longstanding bond of friendship, mutual respect, and shared history between the people of Gonjaland and Dagbon. It also reaffirmed GLYA’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence, unity, and stronger collaboration among the traditional kingdoms of Northern Ghana.

On behalf of the Association, the General Secretary, Mr. Habib Muftawu Borerijnkpr, signed the Book of Condolence and paid glowing tribute to the late Ya-Naa, describing him as an exceptional traditional ruler, an eminent statesman, and a steadfast advocate for peace. He noted that the late King’s wisdom, humility, and unwavering dedication to the unity and development of Dagbon and Ghana would continue to inspire generations to come.

As a gesture of sympathy and solidarity, GLYA presented an undisclosed cash donation to the bereaved Royal Family to support the funeral rites, reaffirming the Association’s steadfast support for the Kingdom of Dagbon during this difficult time.

The Association expressed profound appreciation to the Yendi Branch of GLYA for its exemplary coordination and warm hospitality throughout the visit. It also commended the Dagbon Youth Association (DAYA) for its cordial collaboration, which contributed significantly to the success of the delegation’s mission and further strengthened the enduring relationship between the youth of the two great kingdoms.

GLYA extends its heartfelt condolences to the Regent, the Royal Family, the Chiefs and Elders, and the entire people of Dagbon. The Association prays that Almighty Allah grants the late Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus and blesses his family, the Kingdom of Dagbon, and the nation with the strength and fortitude to endure this irreplaceable loss.
