Source of Fund Hindering DRIP Effectiveness – Kwadaso DRIP Coordinator

The District Risk Intervention Programme (DRIP) Coordinator for the Kwadaso Municipality, Hon. Kamassan has emphasized that source of fund is the significant challenge facing various assemblies in terms of the DRIP effectiveness

Speaking in an interview with our reporter, the Coordinator explained that although the programme has been widely praised for its strategic approach to community risk reduction and emergency preparedness, its full implementation continues to suffer because funding allocations do not arrive on time and, in some cases, do not arrive at all.

According to him, the unstable flow of funds disrupts planned activities, including community sensitisation, training of volunteers, provision of basic emergency response materials, and routine monitoring exercises.

“We have the ideas, we have the trained personnel, and we have communities that are ready to engage. But without timely funds, implementation becomes extremely difficult,” the Coordinator lamented.

He noted that some initiatives meant to address pressing risk issue such as flood preparedness, fire prevention campaigns, and localised disaster mapping have stalled. “The programme is designed to be proactive. But when the resources don’t come, we are forced to be reactive,” he added.

Hon. Kamassan further highlighted that the lack of consistent funding affects partners such as community task forces, school safety teams, and local volunteers who rely on DRIP support to undertake field activities. This, he said, risks weakening the morale of local actors who are vital in early warning and rapid response.

Despite these challenges, the Kwadaso DRIP office continues to engage stakeholders and improvise within its limited means. The Coordinator expressed optimism that with improved financial commitment from the central authorities and development partners, the programme would be able to operate at full capacity and deliver on its mandate.

He called for a more reliable funding framework that matches the urgency required in disaster risk management, emphasising that every delay has real consequences for vulnerable communities.

“Risk does not wait. Preparedness cannot be postponed. If we are to protect lives and livelihoods, funding must reflect the seriousness of the task,” he stressed.

The Kwadaso Municipal DRIP team says it remains committed to serving the public but hopes that the issue of funding will be addressed promptly to ensure the programme’s long-term success.

He made the statement when Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanini Barima Kese, Nyankyerenease Nkosuohene funded fuel for the DRIP machines and other expenses for the reshaping Nyankyerenease inner roads.

The Coordinator further called on philanthropists and other stakeholders to support the funding of the DRIP initiative for effectiveness.
