The Savannah Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Iddrisu Sulemana, popularly known as Professor Kalamonia, has filed a defamation suit against Osman Sharif (alias Sharif Governor) at the Tamale High Court.
According to a writ of summons dated December 12, 2025, the plaintiff accuses Sharif Governor of publishing false statements on various platforms claiming that Chairman Sulemana pocketed a GHC 100,000 funeral donation allegedly made by Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam (Anta) for a party official’s funeral in the Savannah Region.
The alleged publication described the donation as having been misappropriated by the chairman.
The plaintiff asserts that the statements are fabricated, baseless, and intentionally designed to belittle, undermine, and denigrate his reputation as a hardworking and respected party leader.
He claims the defamatory publication has caused significant damage to his personal and political reputation.
The Tamale High Court has issued the writ commanding Sharif Governor to appear within eight days of service to respond to the action, with a warning that failure to appear may result in judgment being entered in his absence.
A statement signed by the Salaga North Constituency secretary Abubakari Jebuni Habib has issued an apology to Professor Kalamonia, acknowledging the falsehood of the allegations and retracting the publication.
The party has also instructed Osman Sharif to issue an unqualified apology through the same medium.
The plaintiff, NPP Savannah regional chairman, seeking redress for the alleged defamation is yet to react to the apologies made by the party’s constituency executive committee.
The case underscores growing concerns about misinformation and its impact on personal reputations within the political party’s circles as individuals show interest to contest various executive positions when the ban on internal party campaigning is finally lifted.
