NPP Race: NPP MPs Performed Far Better Than Dr. Bawumia in 2024 Elections – Bryan Acheampong

A flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Bryan Acheampong has argued that several New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament outperformed the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, a comparative assessment of the election results shows that many NPP parliamentary candidates secured stronger performances in their constituencies than the party recorded at the presidential level.

Dr. Acheampong made the assertion while speaking on the ongoing internal discussions surrounding the future direction of the NPP and lessons from the party’s 2024 electoral performance.

He explained that the outcome of the elections points to the strength of individual parliamentary candidates, grassroots engagement, and local campaign strategies, which in some cases exceeded the appeal of the national presidential campaign.

“The figures clearly show that our MPs, in many constituencies, performed far better than our presidential candidate,” he said, adding that the development should prompt honest reflection within the party.

Dr. Acheampong stressed that acknowledging such realities is necessary if the NPP is to reorganize effectively and build a stronger electoral strategy going forward.

He further noted that the party must place greater emphasis on reconnecting with the grassroots, strengthening internal cohesion, and adopting innovative campaign approaches to regain electoral dominance.

His comments have added to ongoing conversations within the NPP as the party assesses its performance in the 2024 elections and positions itself for future leadership and electoral contests.

He further noted that Dr. Bawumia is not fit to lead the party in the 2028 general elections, asking delegates to have second thoughts on the party’s direction come 2028.
