“We Can’t Entrust 2028 to Dr. Bawumia After Loosing Woefully to Mahama in 2024” – Dr. Bryan Acheampong

A flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has questioned the possibility of handing the party’s 2028 presidential ambition to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia following what he described as a woeful defeat to President John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 general elections.

Dr. Acheampong made the statement during his second face-to-face engagement with party delegates and stakeholders as well as grassroots members of Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region.

According to him, the outcome of the 2024 elections should serve as a wake-up call for the NPP, stressing that the party must critically evaluate its leadership direction ahead of the next electoral cycle.

He further pointed to the party’s poor performance in several regions, including Volta, Oti, Upper East, Upper West, Savannah, Bono East, and Western North, noting that these losses underscore the depth of the party’s electoral challenges.

Dr. Acheampong emphasized that rebuilding the party would require honest reflection, strategic reorganization, and leadership choices that can restore public confidence and broaden the NPP’s national appeal.

His comments add to ongoing internal discussions within the NPP as the party begins the process of regrouping and positioning itself for the 2028 elections.
