Perfect Series Increases Ultimate Prize to GH¢25,000 in P.S.B.S.A.C New Edition

The Chief Executive Officer of Star Media Plus and Perfect Series, Pastor Philip Sarpong, has announced an increase in the ultimate prize for this year’s Perfect Series Basic School Assessment Contest from GH¢20,000 to GH¢25,000.

He made the announcement during the third edition and first centralised contest of the competition, which was held at Anglican Senior High School on March 5, 2026. The event brought together pupils, teachers and school representatives from several basic schools within and around Kumasi.

Speaking at the event, Pastor Sarpong explained that the Perfect Series Basic School Assessment Contest is designed to promote academic excellence and healthy academic competition among pupils at the basic education level. The contest targets pupils from Basic One to Basic Six, giving them the opportunity to test their knowledge and improve their academic performance.

According to him, the programme has traditionally been organised within individual schools. However, for this year’s edition, the organisers introduced a centralised contest format to allow several schools to participate at the same venue and interact with one another.

“This year we decided to bring many schools together at a central location so that pupils can compete with their peers from other institutions. This approach also encourages exposure, confidence and a spirit of academic excellence,” he said.

Pastor Sarpong explained that the contest is structured to ensure fair participation across all classes in the basic school system. Each class from Basic One through Basic Six writes a different set of questions tailored to their academic level.

He added that schools will qualify for the next stage of the contest if at least three of their pupils score more than 50 marks in the assessment.

“The competition is organised in stages. After the first round at the sector level, successful schools will progress to higher stages of the contest, eventually leading to the national level where the ultimate winner will emerge,” he noted.

The CEO emphasised that the decision to increase the ultimate prize money to GH¢25,000 is intended to motivate pupils to take their studies seriously and encourage schools to prepare their learners adequately for the competition.

He further revealed that the organisers are working towards introducing scholarships and additional educational support packages for outstanding pupils in future editions of the contest.

Pastor Sarpong also used the opportunity to call on the government, non-governmental organisations, corporate bodies and philanthropists to support the initiative.

According to him, such partnerships will help expand the programme and provide greater opportunities for talented pupils across the country.

“We believe that initiatives like this can help nurture the next generation of leaders. With the support of stakeholders, we can reach more schools and help more pupils develop their academic potential,” he added.

The Perfect Series Basic School Assessment Contest continues to gain attention as one of the emerging academic competitions aimed at strengthening foundational education and encouraging excellence among young learners across Ghana.
