Five Communities Petition Otumfuo to Destool Adankrangya Manhene Over Alleged Misconduct

Residents of five communities in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region have petitioned the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, seeking the destoolment of the Adankrangya Manhene, Nana Oppong Frenyam II, over what they describe as persistent misconduct and poor leadership.

The petitioners, drawn from Adankrangya, Anwiam, Amenase, Amoamo and Dome under the traditional council, accused the chief of failing to promote the welfare and development of the area while allegedly taking unilateral decisions on community lands without consultation.

Residents of Adankrangya expressed concern over the lack of basic social amenities in the community, including the absence of a public cemetery, forcing families to struggle to find places to bury their deceased.

They also complained about the lack of public toilet facilities, describing the situation as a serious public health concern.

The residents further lamented the lack of access to portable drinking water, despite alleging that a significant portion of the community’s lands has been sold over the years without corresponding development.

They questioned why the proceeds from the land sales had not been used to provide essential social amenities, including a reliable source of safe drinking water.

Meanwhile, residents from Anwiam, Amenase, Amoamo and the other affected communities alleged that the chief has sold large portions of community farmlands and stool lands without any visible developmental projects to benefit the people.

The petitioners further alleged that the chief recently allocated land to Dayshine Quarry Company Limited, a Chinese-owned quarry company, whose operations they claim are negatively affecting their lives.

According to them, blasting activities have caused cracks in buildings, polluted water sources, destroyed farmlands, and exposed residents to excessive dust and noise, posing serious health and environmental risks.

They also accused the Adankrangya Manhene of disregarding the views of his council and community members in the administration of traditional affairs, describing his leadership style as divisive and lacking transparency.

The petitioners are therefore appealing to the Asantehene to institute investigations into the allegations and take appropriate action, including the destoolment of the chief, to restore peace, accountability and development within the affected communities.
