The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned the Inspector General of Police following the arrest of some of its members, describing the action as unacceptable and politically troubling.
At a press conference held earlier today at NPP headquarters, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, did not hold back in his criticism of the police leadership, expressing deep concern over what he described as a growing pattern of intimidation against members of the party.
“This is not just unfortunate; it is a direct affront to democratic governance. Shame on you,” he stated, directing his remarks at the leadership of the Ghana Police Service.
According to Mr. Kodua, the arrests were carried out without sufficient justification and raise serious questions about the neutrality and professionalism of the police service. He argued that such actions, if not checked, could erode public confidence in state institutions and threaten the country’s democratic stability.
He further warned that the development could heighten political tensions, especially at a time when the nation requires unity and adherence to the rule of law. “We must not allow state institutions to be used in ways that undermine our democracy,” he stressed.
The NPP General Secretary called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately review the circumstances surrounding the arrests and ensure that the rights of the affected individuals are fully respected. He emphasized that the police must operate within the confines of the law and remain impartial in the execution of their duties.
The party is also demanding the immediate release of all detained members and has indicated that it will not hesitate to pursue all legal avenues to secure justice if necessary.
