The District Chief Executive of Atwima Nwabiagya North Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Mba Zechariah Alenbilla, has led a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market at Asuofua , a flagship project being implemented under the auspices of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to create modern markets across all district and expand local economy through a 24-hour business activation.
Speaking in an interview, Honourable Alenbilla expressed his thankfulness to President John Dramani Mahama for the initiative, and also expressed gratitude to the traditional authorities for donating a suitable site for the project.
He noted that in the meantime, the assembly arrangements are ongoing to evacuate all traders to a temporary site in order to pave way for the commencement of the work.
According to him, the contractor, Darlingtek Company Limited, is expected to complete the project within 36 months.
Unveiling the scope of the initiative, Project Manager for Eco-Planners and Engineering Consult, Engineer Daniel Yeboah, said the market would have several lockable shops and stalls, a clinic, a daycare center, a women’s bank, police and fire posts, restaurants, pharmacies, and other ancillary facilities.
He indicated that the Darlingtek Company Limited has been well-resourced by government to execute the project before the stipulated time. According to him, work would should commence within two weeks.
In an interview, the Queenmother of Asuofua, Nana Ahenkan Baanie, seized the moment to expressed her heartfelt appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for keeping to his promise. She gave assurances that upon completion, government would reap substantial benefits off the project due to high level of procurement interest from traders even before the laying of the first block.
She therefore appealed to the contractor to engage the services of local carpenters, masons, and labourers, adding that no lackluster output by any of her subjects would be condoned.
While commending government for the initiative, the traders seized the moment to passionately appeal to government to ensure the timely completion of the project. Additionally, they appealed to the assembly for a fair distribution of the yet-to-be-constructed stalls.
