A total of 35 aspirants have filed their nominations to contest various executive positions in the Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the party intensifies preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The nominations closed on Thursday at the office of former Vice President Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia at Asokwa, where the Elections Committee received nomination forms from aspirants seeking to lead the party at the regional level.
Addressing the media after the close of nominations, Mr. Kwaku Atta Sarpong, Deputy Ashanti Regional Organizer and a member of the Elections Committee, disclosed that 35 people successfully filed to contest the various positions, with vetting scheduled for Monday, July 20, 2026.
According to him, two aspirants filed for the position of Regional Chairman, four for First Vice Chairman, three for Second Vice Chairman, three for Regional Secretary, four for Deputy Regional Secretary, three for Regional Treasurer, three for Regional Organizer, three for Women’s Organizer, four for Youth Organizer, four for Nasara Coordinator, and two for Communications Officer.
Mr. Atta Sarpong further revealed that seven women are among the 35 aspirants who picked and filed nominations to contest the various executive positions.
He commended the aspirants for the orderly manner in which they filed their nominations and assured party members that the Elections Committee is committed to conducting a fair, transparent and credible vetting process.
He also appealed to all contestants and their supporters to maintain unity and discipline as the party prepares to elect new regional executives to steer its affairs ahead of the 2028 general elections.
