NPP Savannah Chairmanship: Dr. Clifford Braimah Files Nomination, Promises Unity Ahead of 2028

July 17, 2026

Dr. Ing. Clifford Braimah Former Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited has filed his nomination to contest the Savannah Regional Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), promising to unite the party’s structures and reposition it for victory in the 2028 general elections.

Dr. Braimah submitted his nomination forms at the NPP Savannah Regional Party Office in Damongo on Friday, where he laid out his plans to revive the party.

Speaking to journalists afterward, he pointed to the party’s slide in parliamentary representation from three seats down to one of the region’s seven constituencies and said internal divisions among constituency executives needed urgent attention.

He named Damongo, Salaga North, Salaga South, Daboya, Bole, Sawla and Yapei-Kusawgu as constituencies he believes remain winnable, arguing the NPP’s past success of four parliamentary seats in the region proves the ground is fertile with the right leadership.

Asked why he was contesting rather than stepping aside for younger candidates, Dr. Braimah likened the party’s condition to a patient in intensive care requiring an experienced surgeon rather than a trainee. He also pushed back on characterizations of himself as merely a party financier, describing his past contributions as a form of giving back for the opportunity to serve in government.

He cited his experience as former Northern Regional Secretary, his current seat on the NPP National Council, and his role as Co-Chair of the party’s Water and Sanitation Subcommittee as qualifications for the chairmanship, stressing that his ambition is to strengthen the party rather than advance a personal agenda.

Dr. Braimah further pledged to empower the party’s youth and women’s wings through mentorship and opportunity-building, and closed with an appeal to delegates to choose experienced, dependable leadership over untested alternatives.

His entry is expected to sharpen contest for the Savannah Regional Chairmanship as the NPP heads toward regional executive elections aimed at rebuilding the party ahead of 2028
