The Government of Ghana has cut the sod for the construction of a health centre for members of the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) at Abuakwa-Mim in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The project, when completed, is expected to improve access to quality healthcare for mechanics, artisans, traders, and residents within the Abuakwa-Mim enclave and surrounding communities. It forms part of government efforts to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and bring essential medical services closer to the people.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Hon. Osei Boamah Wisdom, popularly known as Okumkom, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Municipality who cut the sod on behalf of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s President, emphasized the importance of the facility in addressing the healthcare needs of workers in the informal sector, particularly garage operators who are often exposed to occupational health risks.

The health centre is expected to provide outpatient services, maternal and child healthcare, and basic emergency care.
Municipal authorities commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would reduce pressure on existing health facilities in the municipality.

They assured residents and stakeholders of their commitment to ensuring effective supervision of the project to guarantee timely completion and value for money.
Leaders of the Ghana National Association of Garages expressed gratitude to the government for responding to their long-standing request for a health facility in the area.
They noted that access to nearby healthcare would enhance productivity and improve the general well-being of their members.

Residents of Abuakwa-Mim also welcomed the project, expressing optimism that the health centre would significantly improve healthcare delivery in the community and contribute to local development.
Construction work is expected to commence immediately, with contractors urged to adhere strictly to quality standards and project timelines.
