A/R: Twenease/Sofoase Chiefs and Residents Urge Security Intervention Amid Rising Violence

The chiefs and residents of Twenease/Sofoase in the Atwima Kwanwoma Municipality of the Ashanti Region are sounding the alarm over the increasing use of firearms by some youth in the community.

This trend has instilled fear and panic among residents, with the situation potentially escalating into a full-blown communal clash if left unchecked.

According to the residents, the armed youth have been causing destruction at various gatherings, including weddings and funerals, posing a significant threat to lives.

They are living in fear due to the increasing violence and use of firearms, with some even refusing to run errands due to safety concerns.

According to sources, the firearms are allegedly being distributed to the youth by the linguist (Okyeame) to the Ejuampong chief, fueling violent behavior and intimidation.

The chiefs and residents are appealing to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene in the traditional dispute and restore peace in the community.

“We are also calling on the Ghana Police Service to intensify investigations into the matter and improve security in the community,” they added.

Odiatuo Obrempong Akwasi Ahuoyaa Ababio, Tuntuhene of the Essumaja Traditional Council and chief for Twenease/Sofoase, revealed that the actions of the armed youth have brought development in the community to a standstill, with people losing interest in investing or developing the area.

He emphasized that if not addressed promptly, the situation may escalate into a full-blown communal clash, leading to further violence and instability.

The situation in Twenease/Sofoase demands urgent attention from authorities and traditional leaders.

The appeal to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the security services highlights the need for collective action to restore peace and stability to the community.
