Lawyer Barima Sarpong has received the blessings and endorsement of key traditional and political figures in Afigya Sekyere East as he formally declared his intention to pursue the parliamentary seat of the constituency.
The legal practitioner and native of Afigya Sekyere East embarked on a constituency tour on Tuesday, engaging chiefs, opinion leaders, party faithful, and residents in what many described as a significant step toward his political ambitions.
The tour began with a courtesy call on the Dawumanhene, Nana Frimpong Ababio Otumfuo Brempong, at his palace in Dawu. The revered chief warmly welcomed Lawyer Barima Sarpong and offered prayers and blessings for his aspiration to serve the people of Afigya Sekyere East in Parliament.
As part of the visit, Lawyer Barima also met with former Chief of Staff under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, Hon. Kwadwo Okyere Mpiani, at his residence. The seasoned statesman encouraged him to remain committed to the grassroots and work diligently toward the development of the constituency.
The aspiring parliamentary candidate later toured Tabre and Jamasi, where he held discussions with New Patriotic Party (NPP) stakeholders, community leaders, and residents on issues affecting the constituency and the need for effective representation.
Addressing residents during the engagements, Lawyer Barima Sarpong emphasized his deep connection to the constituency and his desire to contribute meaningfully to its growth and development.
“Dawu, Tabre, and Jamasi are not just towns on the map. They are the foundation of my story. I have come back home because service to my people is the highest calling I have,” he stated.
Residents and party supporters who interacted with him described him as humble, approachable, and committed to the welfare of the people. Chants of support echoed through some of the communities as enthusiastic supporters expressed confidence in his leadership credentials.
Lawyer Barima Sarpong, who contested the NPP parliamentary primary in 2023, reiterated his determination to continue serving the constituency.
“God has a plan for me, and I believe it shall surely come to pass. My desire is to serve Afigya Sekyere East with integrity and help drive the development our people deserve,” he said.
The blessings received from both traditional and political authorities are being viewed by supporters as a significant boost to his quest to represent Afigya Sekyere East in Parliament, while also reigniting discussions within the NPP regarding the constituency’s future leadership.
