ECG Warns Against Cable Theft, Urges Public Vigilance

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a strong warning against the growing menace of cable theft, calling on the general public to remain vigilant and support efforts to safeguard critical power infrastructure.
This caution was delivered by Ing. Kwabena Bediako, General Manager for Special Projects at ECG, during a management tour of the Ashanti Region on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

According to Ing. Bediako, the persistent theft of electrical cables continues to disrupt power supply, damage equipment, and impose significant financial burdens on the company. He emphasized that such acts not only affect ECG operations but also hinder economic activities and daily life in affected communities.

“We are deeply concerned about the increasing cases of cable theft. These criminal acts lead to frequent power outages and compromise the quality of service we provide to our customers,” he stated.

He urged residents to be alert and report any suspicious activities around electrical installations to the appropriate authorities. He further stressed that community cooperation is essential in combating the problem and ensuring reliable electricity supply.

The ECG management team is currently touring parts of the Ashanti Region to assess ongoing projects, engage stakeholders, and reinforce measures aimed at improving service delivery.

Ing. Bediako reiterated the company’s commitment to protecting its infrastructure and called for stronger collaboration between ECG, security agencies, and the public to curb the illegal activities.

The Electricity Company of Ghana continues to invest in infrastructure and monitoring systems to reduce vulnerabilities, but officials say public support remains crucial in the fight against cable theft.
