Claims that GOLDBOD has made losses, false – Sammy Gyamfi

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has dismissed claims that the institution has been making losses, describing them as false.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series today, Mr. Gyamfi said GoldBod’s 2025 audited financial statements have settled the matter, insisting that the institution recorded a surplus rather than a loss.

He referenced the Auditor-General’s audited and published financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, which he said recorded an operational surplus of about GH¢907 million and an overall surplus of approximately GH¢5.44 billion.

Mr. Gyamfi said the audited figures should put to rest what he described as false claims being made by the International Monetary Fund and the Minority in Parliament that GoldBod has incurred huge financial losses.

He maintained that GoldBod’s financial position, as captured in the audited accounts, clearly demonstrates that the institution has not made losses.

The GoldBod CEO urged the public to rely on the audited financial statements rather than what he described as misleading claims about the institution’s operations.

The controversy follows recent claims by the Minority in Parliament that the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme resulted in losses of about GH¢22 billion, or US$1.7 billion, with the Minority citing an IMF report.
