The Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) has been adjudged Tourism Group/Association of the Year 2026 for its outstanding contribution to the promotion of tourism, culture, peace and sustainable development in Gonjaland and the Savannah Region.
The award was presented to the Association on September 11, 2026, at a colourful ceremony held at the Wuripe and Sons Royal Lodge in Bole.
The GLYA delegation was led by its National President, Mr. Al-Hassan Baba Darison, and included branch members from Bole, Sawla and Mankuma.
In a citation accompanying the award, the organisers commended GLYA for its instrumental role in promoting peace and stability, enhancing the tourism potential of the Savannah Region, and supporting initiatives aimed at driving local economic development.
Reacting to the honour, the leadership of GLYA described the award as a recognition of the collective efforts of its members and stakeholders.
The Association dedicated the award to the hardworking youth of Gonjaland, traditional leaders, government institutions, development partners, tourism stakeholders, civil society organisations, the media and individuals who continue to support its programmes and initiatives.
According to GLYA, the recognition will further strengthen its commitment to projecting the rich cultural heritage of Gonjaland to Ghana and the international community.
The Association said its cultural heritage, including festivals, historical sites, landscapes and traditional arts, has significant potential to attract visitors and contribute to the development of the region.
GLYA further noted that tourism can create employment opportunities, support local businesses, attract investment and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of communities across Gonjaland.
The Association expressed profound gratitude to the people of Gonjaland for their continued confidence and support, while also thanking the organisers of the awards for recognising its contribution to tourism, culture and development.
