
The Ashanti Region is set to make history by hosting its first-ever Rising Star U-15 Rugby League Tournament for Schools.
The tournament is scheduled for April 15, 2025, at the Asokwa Astro Turf in Kumasi,
Thetournament promises to be an exciting and competitive event that showcases the talents of young athletes in the region.
The tournament aims to cultivate young rugby talent, foster social cohesion, and promote athletic excellence among participating schools.
Six schools from the Ashanti Region have confirmed their participation, including Akrofrom JHS, Akrowa JHS, Aduman JHS, Aduamoa JHS, Kyerekrom JHS, and Mowire JHS.

Nana Adu Gyamfi Kumanin Barima Kese I, Nyankyerenease Nkosuohene and CEO of Shamor Herbal Center, who is also the Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Rugby Association, emphasized that the objective of the association is to promote rugby league development, community involvement, and athletic excellence among young athletes.
“The tournament will provide a platform for identifying and nurturing young rugby talent in the region, while promoting rugby league in schools and encouraging participation and engagement among students,” he stated.
He further indicated that the governing body for rugby league in Ghana is working to develop the sport nationwide, stressing that the event is expected to gain momentum in the region and beyond.

Developing the sport nationwide, a recent Rising Star Rugby League Tournament, Accra Edition (U-15) was held at Englebert School, which featured top schools like, Future Lead School (Panthers) Twedaase (Bulls), Englebert School (Skolars), Tema Cluster, and Queensland International (Tigers).
