“I’m Sorry, Forgive me ” – Akpaloo Apologises for Military Helicopter Crash Comment

The founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has issued a heartfelt apology to Ghanaians and the bereaved families of the eight victims of the August 6, 2025, military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District.

The apology comes after Akpaloo faced public criticism for his earlier remarks, which many described as insensitive and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and the grieving families.

Akpaloo had attributed the crash to divine intervention, suggesting that the location of the crash on a cocoa farm was a symbolic reminder to politicians not to lie to cocoa farmers.

He referenced the government’s promise to increase cocoa prices from 3,100 cedis to 6,000 cedis, which was not fully fulfilled.

This comment sparked outrage, with many calling for Akpaloo to retract his words and issue an apology.

Speaking to newsmen on Friday, August 8,2025, Akpaloo admitted that his comments were ill-timed and hurtful, explaining that they were made in a moment of deep emotional distress.

“I am not happy at all, and I feel terrible that my comments caused pain to many people and families. I am sincerely sorry and ask for their forgiveness,” he said.

Akpaloo revealed that he was devastated by the news of the crash, particularly because one of the victims, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, was a close associate.

Akpaloo urged the public to forgive him for his unguided comment, stating that he spoke out of pain and frustration.

He emphasized that he sympathizes with the family, having lost family members in a tragic car crash himself.

The LPG leader’s apology comes as the country continues to observe a period of mourning for the eight people who died in the crash.
