Youth Take the Lead: GACC and Partners Launch Anti-Corruption Initiative in Gonja District

The 2025 International Anti-Corruption day which falls on 9th of December every year was organized by Northcode and LANet lead in collaboration with Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) celebrated this year’s international Anti-Corruption Day.

The programme featured about 300 students and teachers from Buipe D/A JHS and Buipe Model girls schools and as well as about 1000 students from Buipe Senior High School attended the program.

Mr. Baba Bukari the Director for Commission on Human rights and Administrative Justice CHRAJ, advised the Youth not to get involved in corrupt practices. He said they should join the fight against corruption because it denies the nation’s development it deserves.

“Corruption makes a few rich and widens the poverty gap in society. Corruption leads to unemployment and causes economic insecurity,” he stated. He further advised them to resist, reject and report any corruption related issues in their society to the appropriate institutions like the Police,CHRAJ,the Office of the Special Prosecutor or the Economic and Organized Crime Office ( EOCO) for prosecution .

This year’s International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) commemoration, held under the theme, Uniting with the youth against corruption shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity focuses on creating awareness and empowering the next generation to resist corruption and uphold integrity.

During the engagement, the students were sensitized on the concept of corruption, its adverse effects on society, and the importance of upholding transparency and accountability.

Also, Mr Baba introduced the students to key legal instruments such as the Whistle blower Act, 2006 (Act 720)and the Witness Protection Act, 2018 (Act 975), which provide avenues for reporting corrupt practices and ensuring the safety of individuals who expose wrongdoing.

Again,Mr Saaka James project officer For Tamawuta Foundation Lead as focal person observed that there is a need to educate children on the importance of protecting the public purse, so they will be empowered to report corruption when they encounter it.

He added that instilling such values in young people is a proactive way to break the cycle of corruption, as they will be better positioned to reject corrupt practices, demand accountability, and contribute positively to national development.

“Children are the leaders of tomorrow, and if we want a corruption free future, we must start by shaping their minds today,” he added. Providing them with anti-corruption education helps them to imbibe integrity and a strong moral compass at a young age.

These values, once internalized, will guide their actions and decisions as they grow into adulthood. Ultimately, this will lead to the development of a more ethical society and a better Ghana for all, he said.
