Outgoing YAGSHS Counsellor Urges Girl Child to Prioritize Education for a Better Future

The outgoing counsellor of Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School (YAGSHS) Councillor, Madam Ama Pomaah Yinkah, popularly known as Auntie Ama, has called on the girl child to prioritize education as a pathway to a better and more secure future.

She made the appeal during a donation exercise at Sawua D/A 1 and Sawua D/A JHS on Monday, April 27, 2026, as part of activities marking her retirement and her 60th birthday celebration.

Addressing the pupils, Madam Yinkah encouraged girls to remain focused on their studies and not allow challenges to hinder their progress. She emphasized that education remains one of the most powerful tools for empowerment and self-reliance.

She also advised male students to take their education seriously, stressing that discipline, hard work, and commitment are essential for success regardless of gender.

Speaking to Lawson News reporter Sarkodie Samuel, Madam Yinkah explained that her initiative was aimed at giving back to her community while inspiring young people to pursue academic excellence.

Beneficiaries of the donation expressed heartfelt appreciation for the kind gesture. Some pupils noted that the exercise books and pens would go a long way to support their learning, while teachers also commended Madam Yinkah for her continuous contribution to education in the community.

School authorities further praised her for remembering her roots and investing in the future of the children, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.

The event highlighted the importance of community support in education and served as motivation for the students to take their studies seriously and strive for excellence.
