A returnee to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who is the former founder and leader of the United Front Party, Nana Agyenim Boateng popularly known as ‘Gyata Ba’, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to shift their attention from the heated flagbearership race and concentrate instead on strategies that will restore the party’s political strength ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking during Dr. Adutwum’s campaign tour to three constituencies on Monday, November 25,2025, as campaign team member, Gyata Ba argued that while choosing a flagbearer is an integral part of party organization, it should not overshadow the broader objective of regaining power.
According to him, the current internal debates and factional tensions surrounding the leadership contest risk weakening the party’s electoral prospects if not properly managed
“The NPP must understand that what it needs most right now is power, not just a flagbearer,” he emphasized. Therefore entreated party delegates to vote for Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum who places fourth on the ballot paper.
“A flagbearer without a united and battle-ready party is meaningless. The focus should be on unity, strategy, and rebuilding public confidence.”
Gyata Ba noted that internal competition is healthy for any political party, but warned that excessive infighting could alienate the grassroots and provide ammunition to political opponents.
He urged aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum, placing the party’s collective interest above personal ambition.
He further advised party leadership to take proactive steps to promote reconciliation and cohesion, especially after the flagbearer is eventually elected. He stressed that a divided party cannot effectively present a compelling alternative to voters.
With the NPP’s internal contest gaining momentum, Gyata Ba’s comments add to growing calls for restraint and strategic thinking as the party prepares for the crucial national election ahead.
