Domeabra Youth Reject Possible Re-award of Delayed Road Project to Maripoma Ltd.

The Concerned Youth of Domeabra (Mpaha Junction) have intensified their opposition to plans to re-award the long-delayed Domeabra–Mpaha road project to Maripoma Ltd., citing years of abandonment and unfulfilled promises.

Addressing a press conference on May 13, 2026, the group disclosed that the road contract was first awarded to Maripoma Ltd. in 2012. According to them, the contractor abandoned the project in 2016 after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) left office.

They explained that when the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assumed office, the contract was reviewed and later cleared for the contractor to return to site. However, the youth say more than five years later, the road remains incomplete, with the contractor allegedly abandoning the project for a second time.

In a statement read by Mbonwura K. Tijani, Secretary of the Concerned Youth of Domeabra (Mpaha Junction), the group described the situation as unacceptable, stressing that the prolonged delay has caused severe hardship for residents who rely on the road for economic activities, healthcare access, and education.

The group announced that the press conference marks the beginning of a broader campaign to demand action from authorities. They revealed plans to petition key stakeholders, including the Central Gonja District Assembly, the Ghana Highways Authority, the Savannah Regional Minister, and the Ministry of Roads and Highways Ghana.

“This is just the beginning of our agitation,” the group stated, signaling their determination to ensure the project is reassigned to a more competent contractor.

The youth also accused Maripoma Ltd. of having a history of abandoning and delaying road projects in different parts of the country, arguing that the company’s track record should disqualify it from handling the Domeabra–Mpaha road project again.

They maintained that the completion of the road is vital to improving livelihoods, boosting trade, and ensuring access to essential services for residents of Domeabra (Mpaha Junction) and nearby communities.

The group is therefore urging government to reject any attempt to hand the project back to Maripoma Ltd., reassign it to a more reliable contractor, enforce strict timelines, and ensure accountability in the use of public funds.

While acknowledging Maripoma Ltd.’s reputation as a major construction firm in Ghana, the group insisted that performance and timely delivery should take precedence over size and status.
