The flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) race,Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, has reaffirmed his commitment to women’s economic empowerment, promising to introduce targeted grants to support women-led enterprises if given the mandate to lead the party and subsequently the nation.
Addressing party delegates and supporters during a campaign engagement on Monday, November 25, 2025, the former Education Minister stressed that women form the backbone of Ghana’s informal economy, yet many continue to face capital constraints that limit the growth and productivity of their businesses. He noted that a deliberate intervention is necessary to unlock the full potential of women entrepreneurs.
“My term will provide grants for women to boost production and expand their businesses,” Dr. Adutwum declared. “When women succeed, families thrive, communities grow stronger, and the nation prospers.
This support will help them overcome financial barriers, improve productivity, and create more jobs.”
Dr. Adutwum explained that the proposed grants initiative will target women in sectors such as trading, agro-processing, small-scale manufacturing, and other cottage industries. In addition to financial support, beneficiaries will receive training in business management, value addition, and market access to ensure long-term sustainability.
He added that empowering women is central to his broader national transformation agenda, which focuses on inclusive development, innovation, and building resilient local economies.
According to him, any government that seeks rapid development must intentionally invest in women, who play a pivotal role in both economic and social progress.
The former minister also highlighted key achievements in his public service career, urging delegates to consider his proven track record of impactful leadership, dedication to education reform, and commitment to national development as they prepare for the flagbearer primaries.
Delegates and attendees welcomed his proposal, describing it as a timely intervention that would uplift many households and stimulate growth across various sectors of the economy.
As the NPP Flagbearer Primaries draw closer, Dr. Adutwum continues to intensify his engagement with party members, confident that his message of empowerment, opportunity, and development will resonate strongly with the grassroots.
