Attricons urges government to address challenges facing colleges of education

The Association of Teacher Trainees in Colleges of the Northern Sector (ATTRICONS) has called on the government to address pressing challenges confronting trainees in colleges of education in order to create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

The call was made during the association’s 31st Annual Delegates Congress held at the Savannah College of Education in Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region.

Speaking at the event, the National President of ATTRICONS, H.E Rashid Ibrahim, on behalf of the National Union of Ghana Students, commended teacher trainees for their dedication and highlighted key challenges facing colleges of education, particularly inadequate accommodation facilities.
He urged government and relevant stakeholders to prioritise infrastructural development across colleges of education to improve conditions for students.

The Students Representative Council President of Savannah College of Education, H.E Kilonleed George Mingaar, also expressed concern over the persistent water crisis on campus and the lack of job postings for graduates, which he said has contributed to rising unemployment among newly trained teachers.

He appealed to the government to take urgent steps to resolve the challenges.

The North Gonja Director of Education, Mr. Kofi Apeatse Odum, stressed the need for a multifaceted approach to producing quality teachers and urged trainees to uphold high ethical standards in their profession.

The North Gonja District Chief Executive, Hon. Mohammed Nurudeen, who was represented at the event, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to education and youth empowerment.

He noted the critical role teachers play in building sustainable societies and encouraged trainees to embrace digital tools and innovative teaching methods to improve teaching outcomes.
